Mrs. Hunt’s fourth grade class recently took their geometry lesson to the next level—literally—by transforming their desks into shape-filled canvases using tape! Students were free to design however they liked, but they had to put their critical thinking skills to the test: identifying and labeling parallel and perpendicular lines, determining if their shapes were parallelograms, and classifying different types of quadrilaterals.
With anchor charts on hand and teamwork in action, students dug into the attributes of their shapes—students analyzed their taped designs for attributes like acute angles, symmetry, and even whether any shapes qualified as isosceles triangles. The activity sparked excitement and deep thinking.
“This is such a fun way to reinforce geometry concepts while keeping students engaged,” said Mrs. Hunt. “It’s amazing to see how creative and focused they are when they get to take ownership of their learning.”
It’s hands-on math like this that makes the end of the school year both meaningful and memorable!
