Trindale Elementary School's Parent Engagement Night, featuring STEAM with the STARS, was a fantastic opportunity to connect the community with local high schools and showcase the vast range of career and technical education (CTE) offerings. With support from students at Wheatmore High, Trinity High, Randleman High, Providence Grove High, and Southwestern Randolph High, attendees were able to explore hands-on demonstrations in health science, drones, culinary arts, hunter's safety, agriculture, construction, early childhood education, public safety, and masonry. Over 200 students and their families attended, engaging with these exciting programs that highlighted the diverse skills and career pathways students are gaining, fostering greater understanding and involvement between families and their schools.
This event also provided a unique opportunity to highlight the various CTE pathways available to students as they transition to high school, helping families understand the different career-focused programs that can prepare them for future success in college and the workforce. Through these engaging demonstrations, students and parents gained insight into the hands-on learning experiences and industry certifications available, reinforcing the importance of early exposure to career exploration.
In addition to the CTE demonstrations, families also had the opportunity to explore Trindale Elementary School’s newly purchased Ozobots, which were acquired using Title I funds. These small, programmable robots introduce students to coding and computational thinking in an interactive and engaging way. During the event, students and parents experimented with coding Ozobots using both color-coded paths and block-based programming, seeing firsthand how these tools enhance problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The inclusion of Ozobots in the school's curriculum supports STEAM education and ensures that students develop foundational skills in technology and innovation from an early age.
