On Friday, April 11, Franklinville Elementary School was thrilled to partner with the town of Franklinville to present "Cardinal Career Connections," a one-day event featuring a walking tour of the town that showcased the wide range of career opportunities available to students in the community and their link to the global marketplace. Community partners represented all 14 career clusters, offering a broad perspective on potential career paths. Due to the chance of rain showers, the plan was altered, but staff and students alike embraced the change and maintained a positive attitude — one student even exclaimed, 'This is the BEST DAY EVER!'" Students walked with their classroom teacher and an assigned staff or parent chaperone to eight locations around the park and downtown Franklinville. The Randolph County Sheriff's Department and Franklinville Fire Department worked closely with the school to ensure the safety of students on this day. Students left the school building promptly at 8:00 am to walk to their first destination. Students changed locations every twenty minutes and visited eight career stations. These locations included Deep River Fabricators, the park, Franklinville Diner, Franklinville Fire Department, Town Hall, Franklinville United Methodist Church fellowship hall, and Franklinville Town Maintenance. We are thankful to each of the volunteers who signed up to share about their careers on April 11. We are also grateful to all of our sponsors for this event and for providing shirts for students to wear and a snack from the Franklinville Diner. There was no cost for this field trip. After students returned to school, lunch was served, and students completed a follow-up activity in their classrooms.
Cindy Farmer from Fox 8, along with her photographer Joshua, visited to see firsthand "What’s Right With Our Schools." A segment featuring their visit will air on Monday, April 21, and again on Thursday, April 24 — so be sure to watch for this exciting positive media coverage!
