Franklinville Elementary School has made remarkable strides over the past year, enhancing student outcomes through a comprehensive approach grounded in our school motto "SOAR into Learning." Our commitment to focusing on the whole child has driven improvement in student proficiency, fostered deeper parent engagement, eliminated barriers to student success, and strengthened teacher professional knowledge.
Franklinville Elementary has achieved substantial gains in student proficiency, with a composite increase from 46.0% in the 2022-2023 school year to 55.4% in 2023-2024—a 9.4% improvement. A particular point of pride is our growth in math proficiency, with third through fifth graders improving by 17.6%, rising from 48.3% to 65.8%.
Through the use of data-driven instruction, teachers use assessment data to identify specific needs and tailor instruction. This data-driven approach allows us to provide timely, targeted support to students who may require additional academic or social-emotional assistance. Targeted intervention through Cardinal Time, Franklinville's intervention and enrichment block, allows for focused math groups while providing personalized support that accelerates student learning. To address individual students' needs effectively, Franklinville uses ECATS as an Early Warning System which monitors indicators such as attendance, grades, and behavior. Student progress is monitored and interventions are adjusted as needed to support academic and personal growth. Our data confirms steady improvement in student performance across all subject areas, with a particular leap in math proficiency.
Active parental involvement is crucial for student success. Franklinville has taken intentional steps to strengthen family engagement through the use of parent conferences and Title I Nights. Title I parent nights intentionally communicate strategies that are utilized in the classroom to support learning at home. Increased participation in school events and positive feedback underscore the success of our engagement initiatives.
We also believe investing in teacher growth is essential to sustaining Franklinville's academic success. Over the past two years, our teachers have engaged in focused professional development, particularly around literacy and math. Teachers have completed Science of Reading training through LETRS, deepening their understanding of literacy instruction. This year, professional conversations have expanded to include a focus on math, with teachers using PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) to collaborate and refine instructional strategies. Through the guidance of our lead teacher, district leaders, and Early Literacy Specialist, teachers receive continuous feedback and coaching to enhance instructional practices. Classroom observations show a notable increase in the application of effective instructional strategies, with teachers expressing greater confidence in delivering high-quality instruction.
Franklinville Elementary School offers a supportive learning environment where students thrive. By focusing on the whole child, fostering strong parent partnerships, empowering teachers, and providing targeted support, we are creating a foundation for sustained success. We look forward to building on these achievements and continuing to set high standards for excellence.
