The North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics conference was held in Winston-Salem this week.  Franklinville Elementary was represented by Second Grade teachers Mrs. Sherry Chambers and Ms. Jennifer Trogdon, as well as Lead Teacher, Mrs. Elisabeth Bernhardt and Principal, Mrs. Katie Henderson at the conference.  This team presented a session on Using Open Notice and Wonder Reads to Capture and Extend Children’s Mathematical Thinking.  Our second grade team uses Open Notice and Wonder lessons often in math to explore math standards to engage all learners.  This information was also presented at a parent engagement night during the 2023-2024 school year to help engage families in mathematical conversations while reading children’s literature.
