New Market Elementary’s Family Engagement Evening, "Bobcat Pride: Around the World," was a vibrant celebration of the diverse cultures and countries represented by the school’s students and staff, all while making meaningful connections to literacy. The event highlighted several countries, including Mexico, Finland, Canada, Senegal, and Cuba. Each grade level read a story from one of these countries, exploring not only the narrative but also the cultural context, discussing story elements, character traits, genres, and themes.
Families participated in a variety of interactive extension activities related to the books, such as creating their own art, playing cultural games, learning words in different languages, and engaging in creative writing exercises. The evening also featured a book fair and a pumpkin contest, adding to the festive atmosphere. Throughout the event, students, staff, and families embraced the spirit of our school motto, Learning Never Ends #bobcatpride, experiencing firsthand how learning can be fun, global, and ever-evolving.
